Through a Colored Lense

Cuba Gallery, a photographer from Australia named Andrew is one of my new favorite photographers.  Perhaps it is the way he tints his photographs with green and teal tones or maybe because just a quick peruse through his Flickr page CubaGallery and I want to drop everything and hop on a plane to another country.

He explains and shows his before and after process for the photos on his blog under Lightroom Tutorials.

Galerie de Mineralogie et de Geologie

The National Museum of Natural History in Paris which I wrote about yesterday (Meet Me in Paris | Cabinet Bonnier de la Mosson) also has a Galerie de Mineralogie et de Geologoie.  Since a flight to Paris isn't in my plans right now, viewing their incredible mineral treasure online is nearly as good as being there in person.  The photos are incredibly detailed and with each there is the ability to pan and zoom in to see the mineral formations up close.  Use their search function to find minerals by name or by species.

Insects Up Close

Recently I came across Igor Siwanowicz's macro insect photography.  His photos are stunning.

I was studying images of insects and beetles quite a bit lately for jewelry concepts for my Science Project Gone Wrong sketchbook for Art House Co-op.  I have become a fascinated by their little buggy parts and they don't creep me out much any more.  Until I found Igor's photos.  Many of his photos I haven't even attempted to look at beyond the thumbnail size which is more than close enough for me.

Snow Crystals

Wilson A. Bentley photographed the first snowflake in 1885 with a camera he adapted to a microscope.  He sent 500 of his photographs to the Smithsonian in the early 1900's.  Later 2,400 images were published in his book Snow Crystals.  Along with another several thousand images the belief that no two snowflakes was documented.  You can see several of Mr. Bentley's images in the Smithsonian online archives.
